Move payment methods
This step decides whether your migration is invisible or painful.
If your current processor is Stripe
Payment methods clone across. Members keep their card on file and never re-enter anything. Billing continues on schedule.
This is the frictionless path — most members won’t notice the switch happened.
If your current processor isn’t Stripe
Card details can’t be transferred between unrelated processors. Members need to add a card in Avex.
Avex handles this with a grace period:
Members are imported with a grace window
They keep full access — booking, check-in, everything.
They’re prompted to add a payment method
A banner in the app and portal, plus your announcement.
Billing starts once they’ve added one
Stale claims are cleaned up automatically
Members who never add a method after the window are flagged for follow-up rather than silently losing access.
Getting the non-Stripe path to work
Card collection is the highest-drop-off moment in any migration. What helps:
- Announce before, not during. Members who know it’s coming comply at much higher rates.
- Do it in person where you can. Catch people at the desk for a week and knock out most of your base.
- Make it the price of booking. Once the grace window closes, adding a card is required — but warn first.
- Chase the stragglers personally. The last 10% need a phone call, not another banner.
